The Day After The Election.
I saw the news.
All I can think about is my third grade election.
The election had been whittled down to just me and
a boy. I don’t remember his name.
I cared about the student body.
I wanted to instill change in my public school.
I lost.
I lost because my opponent said that he would
“ban homework”.
It didn’t matter how many times I told them that he literally could not
“ban homework”.
That he was not allowed to
“ban homework”.
He sold them an idea and everyone ate it up like it was their last supper.
Because it was.
After he won all anyone could talk about is
how amazing it was going to be when homework was outlawed.
It never was.
I saw the news.
And in that news I saw that boy, victorious over his opponent.
Not worried about the lies he told.
